Organisation and Practical Information

The course is organised by the Department of Geography of Ghent University in cooperation with IALE-Europe.

Venue

The course opens with a welcome evening (10th of September) followed by full day seminar (11th of September) to be held at the congress centre het Pand (Onderbergen 1, B-9000 Ghent) which will also be the main venue of the IALE 2017 European Congress (12th – 15th of September). The rest of the course (15th – 19th of September) will take place in a rural environment in Voironval (Wallonia), in the village of Dourbes (rue Auxiliaire 4, B- 5670 Dourbes). This location is already studied and well known by the organizing committee and will form the departure for excursions. Common transport from Ghent to Dourbes will be arranged. 

Fee

The course fee will be 400 EUR, including costs for meals on Monday 11 September, accommodation and meals from Friday evening, 15 September, until Tuesday afternoon, 19 September. Accommodation in Ghent before and during the congress from 10 until 15 September is on own expense.

There will be opportunity to apply for funding to attend the PhD course. Candidates should indicate on the registration form if they need funding and argument why. As the budget for funding is limited, the organising committee will decide on the amount of funding candidates will receive (depending on number of applications).

PhD students registered in the Doctoral School of Natural Sciences or (Bioscience) Engineering of Ghent University should indicate this on the application form and won't have to pay the course fee. Their participation will be funded by the Doctoral School.

12th June  – Deadline for preliminary registration and submission of abstracts

30th June – Confirmation of acceptance / enrolment
10th July -  Final registration and payment
1st of August – Deadline for submission of draft papers
